My time at IMG Academy

Why I am choosing to write this is beyond me. Whether it be out of boredom, which it most likely will be categorized as, but regardless, here we are.

If you are unaware, my name is Kyle Hiltbrand. I am a 17-year-old from San Luis Obispo, California, and currently, you are on my website reading an article of mine. Why you are doing that is beyond me, but you are here. Currently, I am attempting to build up a portfolio of sports media encompassing all aspects. Whether it be my podcast named Sports Anatomy. Which unfortunately someone else also has one named the same, but mine will do better. Or, possibly I am finally utilizing the camera I got to take photos and do videography for sports. Alas, it could be also the sports articles I write far and few between? Like this one possibly. Concluding this self-promo though, we can speak on my experience at, THE IMG Academy. Emphasis on the “the”.

IMG Academy

Honestly, the hardest thing for me to remember when starting any new endeavor is that people are people. Wherever you go, remembering whatever mockup in your head is, it’s wrong. People are people. My experience at IMG though brief, I feel isn’t just a great representation of the school, but humanity and life in general.

Everything you ever see of some places makes everything up to be so grand. When you look and see videos of IMG it looks so out of this world and unparalleled. And in theory, it is. But so are most things.

All things considered, looking back at it and the semester I spent there, it is exactly what it claims to be. It offers next to everything. All the materialistic things are there. If you go down a bullet list of things and check them off, IMG has next to all of them. And they make sure you know that. However, it’s hard to get past that. If every second of your being there is exactly that. Sterile is a word I would use to describe it.

In knowing this though, they never claim to be anything different. At its core that is all that it is. How it works is because of that. What I mean is that the academy is as easily represented by its name. IMG, international management group. Plain, boring, just stating a fact. You go to the academy to do your best to take advantage of all that is there for you. All the bullet points. The cookie-cutter layout.

If you are a person who has a hard time buying into something and often catches yourself going through the motions. You will get yourself swindled in all the materialistic things, and have a tough time much to anything at all.

In saying these things though, it was brought to my attention that all the materialistic things are exactly what you paid for. You know all this going into it, sometimes it is hard to put into perspective. So in totality, you get exactly what is said you get. It is up to you to find a different cookie.

This is not a diss, but a reflection on who people are and what we are.

We are humans.

Most of our lives are predetermined.

Almost everything we know of ourselves is our reality.

It's in embracing it and taking advantage of it where you get real progress.

Not through change, but through becoming all that you can.

Dueces.
